Camp Sunshine

In 2019, our twelfth family meeting at Camp Sunshine, in Casco, Maine was a huge success; however, further meetings were put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, Camp Sunshine will resume their schedule in 2023 where they left off pre-pandemic and thus, the DBA syndrome family will not be invited back until 2024.

The DBAF is always proud to host the family retreat and give our families, the doctors, and researchers a chance to engage and collaborate. Camp Sunshine offers the opportunity for patients with DBA syndrome, as well as their families, researchers, and doctors, to come together to meet, learn, support, and educate one another. While the adults are busy learning, the amazing volunteers entertain the children with fun camp activities. In addition to the medical and research aspects, care and guidance is provided to our families through Camp Sunshine’s psychosocial program, making Camp a very special and safe place.

At every meeting, we take time to remember the individuals with DBA syndrome who have passed away. This harsh reality of the disease strengthens our unwavering commitment to make a difference and work to find a cure. Our mission to support DBA patients, families, and research needs to be supported and promoted by all of us.

Camp Sunshine holds a strong place in all our DBA families’ hearts. We will be forever grateful for the vision of Camp’s co-founders, Anna Gould and the late Dr. Larry Gould. We sincerely appreciate the staff and yellow-shirted volunteers of Camp Sunshine, the doctors and researchers, DBA Canada, and all those making our family meetings possible. We hope to see you at our next Camp in 2024!
