The Trebing’s book release: The Match: “Savior Siblings” and One Family’s Battle to Heal their Daughter and Fundraising Efforts - Half Ironman.

One of our very special DBA families was on NY Pix Morning News April 19. 2010 and "The View" April 12, 2010. The Trebings and author, Beth Whitehouse, talk about their book The Match: "Savior Siblings" and One Family's Battle to Heal their Daughter. We are very grateful to the Trebings for telling their story and helping to spread awareness about Diamond Blackfan Anemia. An article about the book can also be found on aol at http://www.aolhealth.com/2010/03/08/pgd-in-vitro-fertilization-savior-sibling/.

In addition to the heartfelt and informative book, Steve Trebing will be participating in a Half Ironman August 22, 2010 to support the Diamond Blackfan Anemia Foundation. Thank you Trebings for your efforts to support us on our mission to fund research to find a cure.

Steve Trebing to run Half Ironman to help find a cure for DBA
When: August 22, 2010
Where: Lake Winnipesaukee; Ellacoya State Park
Gilford , NH

What is a Half Ironman?  1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride & 13.1 mile run.  www.ironmantimberman.com

Steve is participating in this event for the first time.   As a matter of fact, he began to jog less than a year ago; he started to long distance swim in August 2009 and bought his first bicycle for his 39th birthday on March 6, 2010.  Why is he doing this?  To help find a cure for Diamond Blackfan Anemia (DBA).  Steve’s daughter was diagnosed with DBA at birth.  Unfortunately, as most DBA families know, hospitals and needles become part of their lives.

Steve’s daughter underwent a bone marrow transplant at the young age of three with the help from her little brother.  But this was no accident.  The book "The Match: Savior Sibling and One Family's Battle to Heal Their Daughter" by Beth Whitehouse, chronicles their long journey.  The Trebing's were fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of cutting edge technology.  However, there are many with DBA who need a cure, improved treatments and hope for a better tomorrow.  We need your help to continue funding critical research projects.

"I think about what Katie went through, her pain and discomfort and I would walk to the ends of the Earth to help.  The Half Ironman is not the end of the Earth, but it’s a good start.  It's the least I can do to help.  It’s time to give back and help as others did for our family. "

His personal goal is 5 hours 5 minutes: A benchmark time for the US Triathlon Team.  A tall order indeed.  He will endure only a fraction of the pain and suffering that DBA community experiences both physically and emotionally.  Please support his cause and keep the hope alive for finding a cure.

Diamond Blackfan Anemia Wristbands Now Available

The DBA wristbands are now available!! Enclosed with each wristband will be a small card stating that all proceeds benefit the DBA Foundation and gives information about the DBA Foundation and our website address. Two sizes are available; Adult measuring approximately 8 inches, and Youth measuring approximately 7 inches.

Please remember that this is an important fundraiser for the DBAF. Each wristband will be available for a $2.00 minimum donation.  Instead of “selling” the wristbands for $2.00 to your friends and family, ask them to support the DBAF by wearing the wristband and making a minimum donation of $2.00.  You will be amazed at the outpouring of generosity.  People will show their support with $5, $10, $20.00. Last time, someone purchased a single wristband for $100.00!  Although I cannot monitor this, I am confidently requesting that our DBA families help make this project a huge success. Please, if you receive anything above the $2.00, send it directly to the DBA Foundation PO Box 1092, West Seneca, NY 14224.

We have research to fund and the only way the DBAF can fund these important projects is if we, the families, make it happen!

Please email your shipping information to twilak@cox.net, specifying the quantity you would like of each size. I will respond to your email giving you my address and any other necessary details. All checks for the pre-orders should be made out to the DBA Foundation, but mailed to me so I can fill your order. I will forward the checks to the DBAF.  Please include shipping charges separately, made out to me. I know it is a hassle but it will make it much easier, so THANK YOU!

I will be shipping the wristbands using United States Post Office priority flat rate boxes and envelopes. Postage fees are:
1-30 wristbands will be $5.00
31-150 wristbands will be $10.35
Oversees orders, contact me privately so I can check on your postage fee.

I sincerely thank everyone for your participation in this fundraiser. The DBAF does a fantastic job and our families working together keeps it strong.

Sincerely,
Twila  Edwards
